Embattled ex-police chief- Joe Van Parkman is accused of embezzlement and fraudulent statement charges. Last updated April 5, 2010.

Its about time the people sworn to protect and serve, actually have to answer to the people who once considered the police job a respectable occupation. Don’t police people have to pass fingerprint, background and chemical tests like the rest of us who want a paying lifetime career job? Weren’t they required to furnish personal references too, or did they trade them for favors?
It’s altogether disgusting.
How quickly we start the throwing of stones…..what ever happened to waiting for the outcome of a fair trial.
If You Do The Crime,You Can Do The Time.& Thats The Bottom Dollar.
All I’m saying is Jo Van deserves his day in court just like you or I would. We as a community should pull together and pray for Columbia to move in a direction we can all be proud to be a part of.
well i wont exactly agree with you. but each man has his own points a guess.you present a good argument.
Just because one person screws up doesn’t make the occupation any less respectable! That is being judgmental on all law enforcement.
Amen, we allow our selfish ways to judge everyone due to ones failure! What is wrong with the citizens in this city. Not all law enforcement breaks the law. However when they do we choose to judge the entire police department.
COLUMBIA IS CURSED NOW THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE SAY WHAT YOU WANNA THINGS WILL NEVER BE RIGHT DOWN THERE UNLESSEN EVERYONE PUT SOME GOD IN THEIR HEARTS AND PULL TOGETHER LIKE YOU JUST SAID…..
i think he should be held accountable like any other man. off the current topic where the h*ll are the police when all break-ins are going on! enough is enough this has gone on too long, before you know people will start taking justice and law into there own hands but not that i can blame them if we cant get the police to step up and or give some answers
If you knew everything the police are doing to stop the break-ins, you would change your tune. They just can’t be everywhere at the same time.
And this is where you and all the other citizens should step in and push for more officers, do you not realize there is a budget that is given to the police department and it has to be followed. These guys are already under paid for their jobs and when the budget does not allow us to put more officers on the streets then you cant lay the blame on the ones that are out there doing their best.
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK JOE VANN FOR ALL HE DID FOR THE CITIZENS OF COLUMBIA I KNOW FOR A FACT HE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO HELP PEOPLE
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK JOE VAN FOR THE OUTSTANDING JOB HE DID AS POLICE CHIEF
I agree with Biggjrob. Some people love to throw stones. I would like to thank Joe Van for his years of dedicated service.
