Columbia firefighters pass physical test, advance to Academy

Columbia Fire Department rookies Michael VanPeski, left, and Bradley Morgan recently passed a physical fitness test and now advance to the State Fire Academy.

Two Columbia Fire Department rookies passed a physical fitness test and will now advance to the Mississippi State Fire Academy.

The rookies, Bradley Morgan and Michael Lloyd VanPeski took the  Candidate Physical Ability Test in Pearl last week.

Now that they have passed the physical test they can advance  to the Fire Academy, which lasts for six weeks. If they successfully complete the Academy, which is in Pearl, VanPeski and Morgan will be certified firefighters. They will go to the Academy March 1.

The physical test involved exercises such as ladder raises, forcible entry, equipment carry, hose drag and stair climb.
