At Guy’s Grocery, at 215 Williamsburg Road, Columbia, MS, gas has run $2.509, $2.529, and $2.539 for months.

i gas up last week in laurel for 218 a gallon.if they can do it why cant columbia do it,it is because of the local gas companies thats why,i wish we could boycott the two largest gas producers in columbia and then they might come down on their prices

    • evil twin says:

You said it: “local gas companies”. It’s a shame. Being ‘hometown folks’, you’d think they’d cut us a break, but noooo. The rich get richer, and we get to pay for it.

  2. unknown says:

    In laural it’s 2.31

  3. sis says:

I KNOW AT THE END OF MAY IT WAS A LOT CHEAPER IN LAUREL

  4. Janet says:

Florence, Jackson, Pearl & Ridgeland are like $2.33 a gallon.
Hope the gas prices here get within reason with Jackson.

  5. craziness says:

exxon is always the highest in town. does exxon think their gas is special or what is their deal?

  6. Been there done that says:

I gave $2.42 in Texas yesterday. Saw it for cheaper than that in LA on my way home.

  7. curly says:

    guys grocery, good hope, ms.
    2.54 gal.

  8. BR 549 says:

It seems like we Columbianites get it put in our face from every direction. Do folks think we are gullible or just stupid. Do I see a move in my future??

  9. Pink says:

If the halt on deep water drilling isn’t lifted, expect to fill up for about $6.-$10per gallon.

  10. New Voice of Reason says:

    I’m just rambling on here:
It’s been the same way ever since the late 1950’s to my knowledge. Our own local oil cartel would – back in the days I was associated with retail gasoline sales – make a few calls and set the prices that everyone would follow or risk being socially and economically ostracized!
I was a teenager then and always wondered exactly what would happen if someone bucked the system and cut their price to get a larger volume of sales but never saw it happen. I suppose getting kicked out of the good ol’ boy network would set in motion a series of events that would result in being labeled a social pariah and eventually being forced out of business. Then there would be no one who would hire you so you’d be forced to leave town; all things considered that may have been a good thing.
For the past few years I’ve made regular trips to Jackson and beginning on the turn onto highway 49 gasoline would get progressively cheaper until it would be 5% to 8% cheaper in the city of Jackson so I’d always remember to travel as far away from Columbia as possible to fill up and then fill up again on the way back.
It’s just another benefit of living in this particular corner of the universe!
Groceries are generally cheaper here than in Jackson, though cheaper still in Hattiesburg. All things considered we’ve probably got the same problems in different areas as other towns… Complaining doesn’t help unless it bonds people and motivates them to action.
What’s my point? Nothing ever changes or remains the same; it just keeps on keepin’ on!

thanks for the memories and the insight, voice. always enjoy reading your comments.

    • TL says:

Gas and groceries may be cheaper here in H’burg, but houses, taxes, land, and electricity are more expensive. A person can’t but an acre of land for under $20,ooo, a nice house costs over $200,000, utility bill average $250 monthly in H’burg. You can always move out here and pay more for these things or you can stay in Columbia where land, homes, and utilities are cheaper and make the 30 minute drive to H’burg and purchase gas.

  11. use2b says:

Guys Grocery on Williamsburg road, $2.53 a gallon. They even pump your gas for you. If they can afford to pay some one to pump your gas and still make a profit, kinda makes you wonder what the , Shell and BP distributors( Morris’s and Roger’s) are making?? Why can prices go up $.15 a gallon over night, but only come down$.02? Makes you wonder don’t it!!!!!

  12. Cool cat says:

Dont hate on morris everybody is out to chase the $dollar$…..

Thank your president who is doing a wonderful job! ……………..sike

  13. jimmy says:

This is called price gouging, the feds should be called in to put a stop to it. You can go a few miles north or a few miles south and get cheaper gas. If you want to know why just get most of the service station owners to tell you. Its the company that sells it in marion county and has always been a lot higher. Can’t believe its went on this long but what can I do about it.

  14. WORRY says:

u said it use2b,morris oil and rogers!!!! thats the problem and there dont seem to be anything we can do about it!!!!!! they own all the land around town and just about all the gas stations!!!the way i look at it it is call PRICE GOUGING!!!!!!!!!

  15. PMS Mom says:

I paid $2.37 last week in Jackson and its $2.61 here. Its not rocket science…..Our local good old boys are ripping us off!!!!

  16. wow says:

morris oil owns all the shell stations except the one across from meat masters they aThe ones they lso own several small stations around the county. the ones they dont own dirt up, they own the pumps and tanks and pay the dirt owners dirt pennys per gallon. Their worth millions and will keep getting richer. what can you do buy from out of town stations youl pay just as much but id rather see my money go out of town instead of into local fat wallets. You can buy from murphys, kangeroo, keiths , the shell across from meat masters and t and m texico. The rest around town they sell to or own.

  17. WORRY says:

guys gro is now 239 per gallon!!!! thanks miss lynda!!!!!! at lease we got somebody that will stand up to the morris people!!!!
josh, why dont you try and talk to the people that are in charge of rising gas prices and let them try and tell you why a store in bunker hill can sell their gas 15 to 22 cents a gallon cheaper than all the stores in town!!!!!! hope you will follow up on this.thanks

  18. JUST THINKING. says:

THIS HAS BEEN GOIMG ON FOR THE PAST 34 YEARS I KNOW,SINCE I HAVE BEEN IN MARION COUNTY. YOU HAVE TWO OR THREE PEOPLE THAT RUN THE GAS PRICES IN COLUMBIA. THEY HAVE A MONOPOLY ON IT. ITS A SHAME TO THAT THEY WANT TO STICK IT TO THE PEOPLE IN COLUMBIA. NO WONDER EVERYBODY GOES TO HATTIESBURG TO SHOP AND EVERYTHING ELSE TO TRY TO SAVE MONEY,WHILE THESE TWO OR THREE JUST KEEP MAKING MONEY. THANKS JOSH

    • wow says:

The cure for their monopoly would be do business with , Keiths, kangeroo, T&M texico, the shell across from meat masters, even most of your mom and pop country stores buy their fuel from the big boys here in columbia.

  19. WORRY says:

wow, guys gro.dont they get theirs from someone else

    • wow says:

They would have to buy from another supplier, The big boys only pay the stations two to five cents a gallon.
Thats one reason drive offs hurt them so bad they have to pump the rest of the day to make up for one lost tank

  20. goshdogit says:

Josh fuel prices have hit families about as hard as anything I can think of. They have us trapped we have to have their product. It would be great to see a weekly run down on gas prices like you ran in this story . We can’t fix anything if we talk or write about it then put it on an old dusty shelf. With weekly attention we just might be able to help our selves
