U.S. House of Representatives candidate Steven Palazzo addresses the Marion County Republican Women.

South Mississippi needs a congressman who upholds true conservative values, U.S. House of Representatives candidate Steven Palazzo told the Marion County Republican Women on Tuesday night.
Palazzo, a state representative in the Mississippi Legislature for the past four years, is running for the 4th Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat Gene Taylor of Bay St. Louis, who has been in office for 20 years.
Palazzo addressed a crowd of about 45 Republican Women and a few men at the event, which took place at Columbia Alderwoman Cheryl Bourne’s home.
As a member of Congress, Palazzo said his first order of business would be to cast a vote for a “commonsense conservative” to be speaker of the House. By repeatedly voting for Nancy Pelosi to be the speaker of the House, Taylor has shown that he is not in line with the values of Mississippians, Palazzo asserted.
If Republicans fail to stand up for what they believe in, Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., will continue “cramming their liberal agenda down our necks,” Palazzo, a small business owner from Biloxi, warned.
“America is at a crossroads, and we can stand up and have our voice heard or roll over and let the federal government take over our lives,” Palazzo said.
“Obamacare” is an effort to make people dependant upon the government, he noted. “That’s what they (government) want,” Palazzo said.

Marion County Republican Women First Vice President Donna Rackley holds up one of the organization's T-shirts.
He quoted Alamo commander William Bruce Travis, who said, “Neither retreat nor surrender to those who want to take away our freedoms.”
In other matters, Palazzo said his CPA background would be beneficial in Washington when it comes to dealing with the federal budget.
Palazzo is a former member of the Marine Corps Reserves who served in the Persian Gulf, and he said he can relate to the Marion County troops who recently came back from Iraq.
“Make sure you don’t forget about them (troops),” said Palazzo, who currently serves in the National Guard.
Palazzo is a staunch supporter of the right to bear arms, adding that he favored reducing the restrictions on carrying concealed weapons.
He also authored a resolution in the Mississippi House reaffirming the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that gives power to the states. “The federal government has robbed us of our sovereignty,” said Palazzo.
Palazzo is optimistic about the future of Republicans in the United States. “With everything that has happened in ‘Obamacare,’ I think we’re going to see a revitalization of conservatism,” he said.
Prior to Palazzo speaking to the group, Marion County District Attorney Hal Kittrell addressed the Republican Women and said he is concerned the health care bill could hurt small businesses and result in increased premiums. The bill will cost $940 billion over 10 years and does not represent the will of the people, Kittrell said.
Republicans value a strong defense, limited government, free market, sanctity of life and unity of family, he noted, adding, “We’re just good God fearing people.”
The Marion County Republican Women is a “group to be feared and awed,” Kittrell said, adding that they helped him get into office. “This is truly a grassroots group. Ya’ll carried me over the top.”

In response to Palazzo“Obamacare” is an effort to make people dependant upon the government:
Not true, Our President is only making sure that ALL people have access to affordable health care!
In response to Palazzo “If Republicans fail to stand up for what they believe in,…. will continue “cramming their liberal agenda down our necks,”: — I think you meant cramming down our “throat” — I hope that the Repubs believe in ALL men deserving the right to have affordable health care.
In response to Hal who said that the bill did not represent the will of the people: I beg the differ; The will of the people spoke very Loud when the Bill passed. Again, I say “the people” not just Demos or Repubs! By the way, we’ve been in debt a long time – I don’t believe this will make or break us but only HELP!
Would you please show me in the constitution where it says that health care is a right? Just quote the Article and I will hush. You see, it is NOT a right, it is a PRIVILEGE. Even back in the old times, people would bring the doc some produce or maybe a chicken or some eggs in return for his treatment or help. It wasnt a right then and it’s not a right now. Are YOU willing to pay more taxes for someone else who won’t even work to get free insurance and health care? Im not. If you are, then why dont you just go to the hospital and find someone coming into the emergency room and volunteer to pay their bills for them. That way, it doesnt fall on the taxpayers to do it. And I dont know what the fuss over “all people having ACCESS to health care” is about. All they have been doing for the past humpteen years is going to the emergency room and NOT paying anything for it anyway. So now, yall want us to pay for their bills AND their insurance. This is a joke. Too bad you dont get it.
responding to just food for thought: does the constitution say we must have vehicle insurance?— however, we’re paying premiums and for uninsured motorist. I am willing to PAY more taxes if it comes to that to help others in our country have health coverage. And yes I have been at the emergency room (actually was working there) and offered to pay for a child to be seen with a temp of 103 – because the doctor did not want to see the child without insurance. I believe that if we give more instead of hoarding up things in our barnyards then we will have a better society.
Responding to supporter of the people: WOnderful!! Then YOU go and pay their bills. ANd just like a true democrat, you didnt answer my question because you KNOW the answer: Show me in the constitution where congress can require the citizens to purchase anything or where it says health care is a right. You wont answer it because you know it is not there and this is a violation of our constitutional rights. So, NO!! healthcare is NOT a right and YES!! you and all the other democrats can volunteer YOUR money to pay these costs, not tax the rest of us to death and give our money away just to get votes in return. YOU KNOW THE TRUTH – JUST SAY IT!!!
To SOPT:
“And yes I have been at the emergency room (actually was working there) and offered to pay for a child to be seen with a temp of 103 – because the doctor did not want to see the child without insurance.”
Your story sounds pretty weak. Doctors in emergency rooms never know how anyone pays for what when they are admitted. They treat people sent back by the ER desk.
“I believe that if we give more instead of hoarding up things in our barnyards then we will have a better society.”
That’s been tried and it doesn’t work. It’s called communism and socialism.
“The problem with socialism is sooner or later, the money and/or benefits(which cost money)are taken from the taxpayers and spent on non-taxpayers and it runs out.”
You can’t get blood out of a turnip.
Josh, Thank you for coming to our Membership drive. We had over 60 there. I counted 60 and then somemore came in.
NOT ALL REPUBLICANS NEED TO BE CARRIED OVER THE TOP. I SUGGEST THE VOTER CHOOSE THE PERSON AND NOT THE PARTY.
In Agreement with “I Am Sure”!
In light of what’s going on nationally with the healthcare bill, I think officials should began accepting the fact that it passed, and now work to calm down the opposers. Frankly, I’m dissapointed in Kittrell for speaking out rather than helping to begin the healing process.
To formerly known as concerned:
Please clarify why you are upset at Kittrell for his remarks in the above article. All he did was compliment a women’s group, unless I missed comments elswhere.
As far as begin a “healing process”, you a vague in your comments on what is supposed to be healed.
The US senate is still not through with this bill. If the senate makes major changes to this bill, it will have to go back to the US house to be voted on. If it passes then, it will be law. After the SCOTUS rules on the many US states that have filed suit against the FED govt. concerning this bill, there is a 70/40 chance this bill will be ruled unconstitutional.
I’m not upset with Kittrell. I admire and respect him for the great job he’s doing. I am, however, dissapointed that he talked about healthcare at this particular time. Emotions, I think, are running way too high right now. About healing, I’m talking about this divisive healthcare issue. Nationally, some officials are reportedly getting threatened, and their families are apparently afraid. My point is this: Advocacy is one thing, but threats and bad behavior are quite another. I believe all officials, including the DA, have a responsibility to try to calm this storm. I hope that answers your questions.
To FKAC:
Thanks for your response. I missed the paragraph where the DA mentioned healthcare. Sorry.
You’re so very welcome.
well said — let’s move forward!
Thumbs up to Rep. Palazzo!
What district 4 needs is a new Congressman who will represent us in Washington, not try to represent Washington to us. I support Joe Tegerdine, Republican candidate for district 4. Joe Tegerdine runs on a platform of support for the Constitution, fiscal responsibility, limited government, and strong national defense. Please look at http://www.joetegerdine.com for more details
Joe Tegerdine will protect my rights to own my land and hunt on my land, ask SP about Eminent Domain HB 803, Steve was one of three to vote against property rights. That is dissapointing.
Steve also supports government control of medicine(HB he voted for), I have a cold now and can get my clariton D over the counter but in a few months I can’t and have to go to a doc and get a prescription. I am tired of this nanny state mess, besideds meth can be made in many other ways.
I am voting for the real conservative Joe Tegerdine so I can have my guns and still own my land and make my own health care decisions.

I found a video site that has Steven and Joe Tegerdine side by side.
Some of the differences are:
1.Joe is for term Limits Steven is not
2.Joe is for Property rights Steven has voted twice for private business to take your property in 2009
3.Joe is for auditing the Fed Steven is not.

Can I just add that I agree GT and his leader Nancy Pelosi must be voted out, but what I don’t understand is why SP waited until the last min to enter this race? Yes it matters to me.
Joe Tegerdine entering the race 10-11 months ago shows ambition, diligence, confidence, concern for America, and a willingness to make necessary sacrifices. I will be voting Joe and I hope you will just look at the two fine candidates here carefully.

As a Mississippi State Legislator representing a District on the Coast – Steven Palazzo voted against Eminent Domain Reform in 2009 that would have prevented the state from being able to take YOUR land and GIVE it to a private company. Palazzo seems to think that is OK.
Is this the best the GOP can offer?
I think I’ll just stick with Taylor

No one with the exception of the late Sonny Montgomery has ever done a better job of representing Mississippians than Gene Taylor. Amazing how all the quotes from this crowd are straight off the Hannity or Limbaugh shows. Come on people, think for yourselves for a change. Gene Taylor has no more marched in step with Nancy Pelosi than Greg Harper has.
“Amazing how all the quotes from this crowd are straight off the Hannity or Limbaugh shows. Come on people, think for yourselves for a change.” Hmmm, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah! On the lips of virtually every Democrat in every argument against conservative ideas. Maybe you are confusing these people with yourself. It seems that you are the one spouting party dogma. (Not accusing, just suggesting a possibility.) Isn’t it possible that they came to the very same conclusions independently, or do you believe that is something that only liberals can do?
Also…
We live in a small community here. If we all use our names, it would probably foster a more civil discourse between opposing viewpoints. When we hide behind anonymity it becomes too easy for us to be disconnected and just plain mean.
Gene is a career politician with one main goal — getting reelected. We need change in DC and we need it now. Steve seems to be a fine man and his message is sound.
Nevertheless, I support Joe Tegerdine as he got into the race nearly a year ago when the odds of ousting Gene were poor. He has the values I can support including term limits.
Is this, S.P., the best the GOP can offer? We will see on June 1st.
But Joe Tegerdine has my vote there.
