In a freak vehicle accident last night in front of the Double D bar on Highway 13 North in Columbia, a car went up in flames after allegedly crashing into an unoccupied SUV parked on the side of the road.

No one was injured in the accident.

Tommy McDaniel, owner of WCJU and WJDR radio stations, was inside the Double D for the Jeff Bates concert, when a motorist allegedly crashed into the back of his Explorer.

“I was parked on the highway in front of the Double D and some kid just came along and killed it. He ran into the back of it (my Explorer),” McDaniel told the Marion County Informer this morning.

This car burned up after the crash.

The man who allegedly crashed into McDaniel’s vehicle apparently works at Jack’s Family Restaurant in Columbia. A Jack’s employee told the Informer that Matthew Green is the driver’s name. Green could not be reached for comment.

McDaniel said, “I went to the Double D with a car and came back without one.”

The vehicle fire was fully involved when the Columbia Fire Department arrived on scene. Columbia Police and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded. No one was arrested in the incident, according to the Fire Department.

McDaniel’s Explorer sustained heavy damage to the back, and the other vehicle’s front end was crumpled and the interior was burned up.
